THE best homemade mashed potatoes EVER

Remember last month, when I shared with you 15 tips to save money on your food bill?
One of those tips is to eat at home, the other is to eat from scratch.
One of the cheapest foods out there are potatoes.
I can buy a 5 pound bag of potatoes for $1.
One of my families favorite things are homemade mashed potatoes.
We usually have them about once a week.
Believe me, it's not as hard or time consuming as you would think.
You will need:
5 or 6 large potatoes peeled and cut into small pieces (this is key! they cook faster the smaller they are)
1/2 cup low fat milk
4 tbsps of butter
1 tsp salt (less if you are using salted butter)
1/4 tsp black pepper

Boil the potatoes until you can easily put a fork in them.
I always make my potatoes in my kitchen aid stand mixer.
Here's my tip, the bowl is always cold.
When you drain your potatoes, put the strainer inside the mixing bowl.

When the warm water from the potatoes is drained out, it heats the bowl!

I take the water and swirl it around making sure the sides get heated too.

I also warm my milk and melt my butter.
I combine them in a measuring cup and heat in the microwave for about 45 seconds.

Put your potatoes in the mixing bowl

and combine the milk and butter and mix until smooth.
Scrape the sides of the bowl, then add your salt and pepper and mix until fluffy.

Delicious!
5 ingredients, fast and easy!

Give them a try!
