textured snowmen in vintage jars

Several weeks ago, I was doing a little window shopping at a local downtown area that I love.
I happened into a shop where I saw something that I had never seen before.
There were what looked like textured Styrofoam balls in various vintage glassware and jars with the most adorable sheet music hats.

My first thought was, I can make that.
My second thought was, if only I knew how!
When faced with that situation, I usually just buy the item, but they were a little out of my price range.
For days, I thought about how I could texture Styrofoam to make the snowball for the heads.
I'm sure that's what fills up your heads for days too, right?!

I finally figured it out, and came up with a fun easy {dare I say it, inexpensive} way to make these adorable textured Styrofoam snowmen and I want to share it with you today!

Hobby Lobby has a product called Snow-Tex.
You can buy it here.
It's $3.99 for a small jar, but this small jar will cover around 10 medium sized Styrofoam balls.

4-ounce Snow Tex

I added a few drops of water to the snow-tex and then simply pounced it on.

This is what your Styrofoam ball will look like covered with snow-tex,
and what it looks like without snow-tex.

Once the snow-tex is dry
{around 2 hours}
I shopped my house to find various sized jars for the Styrofoam balls to sit in or on top of.

Snowmen need noses, so I picked up this orange fimo clay.

I shaped the noses out of the clay and baked them at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Make sure the ends of you noses are flat so that they can be attached to your Styrofoam ball.

The fun part is adding the embellishments!
I had sheet music that I bought at a garage sale over the summer.
I rolled the cone hat and glued it in place.
I used tinsel to trim the snowball.
I also used silver beads and pipe cleaners.

I used tulip puffy paint for his eyes and mouth,
and I literally used the blush in my makeup bag for his cheeks!
I attached the noses with hot glue.
You can follow this tutorial for how to make the fan collar.

I love how they turned out!

I have them placed in various vignettes all around my house.

This one is in a vintage sundae glass jar.

This little guy is in my faux mercury glass votive.

They make the perfect gift or keep them for yourself!
I promise they will make you smile!
