What I Wore Wednesday

Sorry for the "better late than never" What I Wore Wednesday post. I know you all could not have managed without it! My computer has been struck by some virus that isn't showing up on any software scans, but is really messing with my settings. I haven't been able to blog or check Facebook (gasp!) nearly this whole week.
So with that out of the way, let's get back to our regularly scheduled programing.
Welcome to another week of What I Wore Wednesday-garage sale edition. Where I link up my garage sale finds and show you that yes, you can look hip and stylish for much less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks!

One of my favorite techniques has been freezer paper stenciling on t-shirts as seen here,
here,
here,
and here .

So if you missed my blog swap with Allison at A Glimpse Inside last week, I thought I would share with my readers how I brought this technique to decorating.

Aren't these mini decorative pillows cute? I'm excited to show you how to make them.

I found these vintage looking money bags at a garage sale for $1. I knew I could do something cool with them.

I started by pairing the bags with some corduroy that I had in my stash.

I cut them down to 7 inches tall, 6 inches wide. I'm pretty sure most of you know how to make a pillow, so I won't bore you with that information. Make sure you leave a large enough hole to turn the fabric since it is quite thick. I like to use as much fabric as I can and not waste anything, so I used even the back of the money bags even though it didn't have any of the cool printing on it.

They needed something so I printed up some numbers in Word and then traced them onto freezer paper. Cut the number out and iron them on to the fabric you are using. I used black paint and a sponge brush to fill the stencil in and let it dry. Once it's dry you can peel off the freezer paper.

Then you stuff the pillow and finish sewing the seam.

Aren't they cute stuffed in this vintage wire basket?

Or you can use them as a door stop or to stuff a decorative basket. What would you do with them?

Ruffle Sweater

I read a lot of magazines at the gym. Sometimes I just flip through them looking at pictures. A few weeks ago, I saw a Banana Republic ad for this sweater (o.k., not this sweater, the one in the ad was grey and white, but it was similar and I couldn't find the stock photo of the other one) and knew I had to make it.

Cute right? I even had a sweater on hand for this very purpose. I bought this white cardigan at a garage sale for 50 cents.
I took two other shirts (again ones I had lying around ready to be repurposed) and set to work.

I cut 2 inch strips of fabric from each shirt and then cut them open at one seam making a long strip of fabric to work with. (can you believe I don't have a rotary cutter and mat? seriously! sounds like a good Christmas gift idea!) Then I ruffled each strip using the sewing machine tension technique (setting the tension on the highest setting, and the length of the stitch to the longest. Try it. It automatically ruffles the fabric with no pulling!).
I pinned each ruffle in place on the sweater and then sewed them down.

So, what do you think? (I think it looks like I was not born to be a model!)

The perfect sweater for the holidays.

blog swap with A Glimpse Inside

Today I am blog swapping with Allison over at A Glimpse Inside. She just won an amazing contest from 3M that I am totally jealous of! She also has some amazing tutorials. I think my favorite is the crepe paper rose wreath . I am excited to introduce you all to Allison.
Hello! I am so excited to be blog swapping with Rachel today! Rachel is super sweet and super talented and I am so happy she wanted to have me over for a "visit" in her world today.

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Allison and I am from A Glimpse Inside. I am an Army wife with a creative side. I LOVE to craft, paint, sew, take photos, decorate, go thrifting and more!

The dear husband, Travis, and I are currently living in KY. We just moved here in May from our first duty station in VA. We won't be here long but we enjoy being close to our home state of TN. He is super supportive and encourages me to create anything that comes to my mind.

But enough about me... I bet you all just want me to get to the good stuff. :)

On my blog, I share pictures and stories of our life along with my crafts, recipes, thrift finds, decor, and more. I started blogging almost a year ago and it has become quite an addiction.
Here are some things you'll find.

We bought these crates at a Flea Market and they are now a table in my husband's "man cave."

On Tuesdays, I share yummy recipes.
This one is AWESOME and a must try- Dalmatian Cupcakes.

I love to share furniture or project transformations. It is always so fun to see what something will turn into when you are finished.

Coffee Table Upcycle

But I mostly share crafts!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to craft! I love to share the tutorials on how to make them too.

Fun Fall Garland using toilet paper and paper towel rolls

Today, I want to share a tutorial with you creating pumpkin yarn art.

This is an easy project.

Supplies:
- Pumpkin Image
- Orange and brown yarn
- Glue
- Colored Cardstock
- Markers
- Picture Frame

How-to:
To start, I searched for an image of a pumpkin on Google. Once I found one that I liked I printed it out on a white piece of cardstock.

Trim the picture down. I just wanted a small white border around the pumpkin once done.

All trimmed.

I glued it onto a green piece of cardstock for another layer.

I then colored in the pumpkin so you wouldn't see white through the yarn. You could always just print the pumpkin orange but I didn't want to do that.

Then outline the stem with the glue. Place down the yarn.
Fill in the stem with more glue and yarn.
(I found it best to place down the yarn, then cutting it while in place. Place strips of yarn because when you try to keep one continuous piece it doesn't fill in completely.)

Place glue on accent lines.

I used brown yarn for the accents but you can also use a different shade of orange.

Cover all accent lines.

Then outline the whole pumpkin with the orange yarn.

Begin filling in the pumpkin. Again, place down the yarn a row and a time and cut in place.

Start on the outside and work your way across.

All done!

Let dry.

I then placed it in a 6x8 picture frame. I also added another layer of brown cardstock.

Perfect little fall accent!

I would absolutely LOVE for you all to come visit me in my neck of the woods and take a glimpse inside my world. Stop by, take a look around, stay awhile and maybe leave a comment or two. Who doesn't love those comments? I know I do!

Thank you Rachel for having me over to share this tutorial and blog swapping with me!
You are a fabulous host! :)
