How to pack the perfect college care package

My husband and I still reminisce about the days when we were in college.  We lived in the same dorm {boys on one side, girls on the other} and would often run into one another at the common mailboxes that were shared in the center of our H-hall.  Both of us had OMCH--Obsessive mail checking habit for those less informed.  We loved getting mail even if it was just a catalog and because it was the campus mail system, sometimes mail would get delivered more than once a day.

We've been involved in children's ministry at our church for years so when our first set of "kids" went off to college four years ago, I got in the habit of sending out care packages. I thought if we loved getting mail so much, other people probably like getting mail a lot too. Over the course of the years, I've gotten pretty good about my college care packing abilities.  So much so that I have the goods on how to pack the perfect college care package.

I've learned that there are 5 essential items to pack inside a care package. Sometimes I mix it up a bit if there is a holiday {extra candy for Halloween} or if I find something fun {tattoo sleeves anyone?!}. I also try to remember birthdays and usually pack a birthday card with confetti and balloons.

I always head to WalMart because I can get all of my care package items in one stop.

Here are the 5 essentials for packing the perfect college care package.

1. School supplies-college kids can always use a refresh. Highlighters, correction fluid and sticky notes are top of the list for school supplies.

2. Candy-it doesn't matter how old a kid is, they still love candy. Small personal sizes are perfect for sharing with dorm friends too.

3. Personal items-college kids aren't going to want to spend what little money they have on personal care items but they are going to want to feel confident, fresh and ready to learn. A new Schick® disposable razor is a perfect replacement for the dull one they have in their shower caddy and it will help them be ready to start their day with confidence. Lotions and yummy smelling hand sanitizers are great to include as well.

4. Homemade treats-you have no idea how much college kids appreciate homemade treats. A half a dozen chocolate chip cookies or your specialty banana bread are a little piece of home.

5. Note-I always include a handwritten note. For this box, I wrote a little note on the front of a sticky note. You don't have to write a novel, just a little something to let your favorite college kid know you were thinking about them.

Schick is giving your college student a chance to win $10,000 toward college tuition {yes please!}! All they have to do is snap a selfie using the hashtag #SchickSelfieSweeps on Twitter or Instagram to be entered.

I would love to hear what your favorite items are to include in a care package.  Let me know in the comments below.
