I know I am late jumping on this bandwagon. Does it count that I have been searching and searching for this Krylon Looking Glass Spray for about a year now? I know I can buy it on the internet, but that's not the same as heading to Michael's with a 40% off coupon now is it?!
I've been searching for so long that Martha Stewart doesn't even have her post that she did about it on her website!
But alas, the search is over! I finally found it. Krylon Looking Glass spray is the best kept secret in the craft stores because they have it hidden far away from any practical location that you would expect it in. Most of the salespeople don't even know that it's there. Check in the mosaics aisle.
Anyway, after gathering some small glass jars at a garage sale this weekend I set to work at my first attempt at faux mercury glass.
I used this tutorial here . I liked that it didn't require any fancy gold leafing or extra paint, just the Looking Glass spray and some vinegar and water.
My big tip: Wear a latex glove...you just need one. While the fancy silver manicure I am still sporting is super cool, you will thank me later if you just put on a glove. Consider it your little Michael Jackson moment.
Seriously, while you are waiting for the paint to dry you can even sing a little "Bad" or do the "Thriller" dance.
Here's my finished product.
I think it's pretty cool.
