I LOVE LOVE LOVE garage sales! It's still a little cold, but they are occasionally starting to pop up around the neighborhoods, much like the spring bulbs. I happened upon a garage sale on Friday where I picked up a few lovely things that I knew I could refashion. The first thing I started on was this size XL shirt that was too darn cute to pass up for fifty cents!
I loved the detail on the front and the cute little cap sleeves. I knew it would make the perfect spring dress for my daughter.
I ended up cutting the sleeves off to salvage those, then used a dress from my daughter's closet as a pattern to cut the shirt smaller to fit her, sewed up my seams and there you have it. The dress would have taken me about 15 minutes if I could have figured out how to put the sleeves on, but I am not the most spatially aware person and had to walk away from it a few times so I could figure it out. As soon as I was resigned to wait for my more spatially aware (engineer) husband, I figured it out! If you look closely though, I managed to sew the sleeves inside out. Minor details that I am o.k. with...at that point, I was happy to be done with it.
I think it turned out pretty cute. Can you believe my daffodils have already bloomed?! And check out that azalea bush in the picture above? I love spring flowers!
