kitchen face lift

A little over two years ago my husband and I took on a full kitchen face lift. We had nice oak cabinets that just felt a little dated, so we looked into a few options and settled on painting them. All of our appliances were in good working order, but we wanted to update them all to stainless steel. And our countertops were a large tile that we traded out for slab granite. While we were getting it all done, we decided to have our floors refinished too. While I would like to say we are handy enough to do it on our own, we decided to contract all of it out and were quite pleased with the results and thankful that it took less than a week to get a total transformation!

Here are the before shots

And after!

We found a guy on Craigslist that paints the cabinets and puts on a glaze finish. We also updated the cabinet doors and chose an internal hinge with a soft close. You can't slam our cabinet doors shut if you tried! We also installed cabinet drawer pulls and knobs. He did a mock up of one of the cabinet doors to show us before doing the whole kitchen.

We didn't have space for a double oven, but this GE profile offers the double oven feature without the space and I love it!

When having the granite installed, we chose to have an undermount sink installed as well.

There you have it! A custom kitchen look for a fraction of the price!

  1. whoa! what a difference the painted cabinets and new counter tops make! stunning kitchen :) i am way jealous of your stainless steel appliances, too.
and i've heard of friends being kitchen-less for WEEKS during renovation so the fact that yours got done in just one week is awesome.

  3. You found him on Craigslist??? I would have never thought of that. We redo a ton of kitchen cabinets for my business.... but don't replace them or do the fancy hinges! Hahaha! It looks wonderful!

  5. OMG! Love it! We are revamping our kitchen this weekend and I think it may look just like yours! We are wanting to do cream cabs with a glaze, venetian gold granite (in 2 wks), undermount sink (do you like your style sink?), and wall color! Can you give me the details of your cab color and walls and if you love sink? Thank you!

  8. Sarah, we do love the undermount sink. It is so easy to take care of. The granite is actually giallo santa cilia, but I do remember going back and forth between venetian gold. Good luck with your redo!

  9. Ann, I can't remember, we put the color on the walls nearly 7 years ago. I'm guessing they don't have it anymore. Some shade of khaki...it's a behr paint from home depot.

  11. Oh, I love it! About how much did the cabinets cost? We are moving into a new home with blah cabinets and Hubs is giving me a $2500 budget.
